On Saturday I went to a burlesque show in New Westminster. The show was a tribute to B-movies. It was well done. I laughed so hard that I cried. Jen enjoyed herself so much that she suggested to host a burlesque party at our place. She even got her character sketched up already, "biciclette mama." Ariel suggested that I should be the "the dictator." Funny though she didn't volunteer her stage name...hmm, that Ariel is a trickster, I tell ya. Good times!

that whole experience is so much funnier in retrospect. i think it's interesting that it's supposed to be a spoof, tongue-in-cheek and sort-of above the baser forms of... (what shall i call it?)... erotic expression. but at the end of the day, it's women taking their clothes off for an audience!
ps: malani, i just found the comment you made on my blog, so i thought i'd return the favour!
yes, they did take their clothes off--I didn't see anything wrong with that. I think that bodies should be celebrated, and in this particular show the women did achieve that with complete control of their artistic expression. I didn't feel that they were objectified either.
Perhaps, I misunderstood your point...I do appreciate your insight and thank you Marla for sharing your view.
